Welcome to Filecoin: Orbit, a two-day virtual conference celebrating the first year of an incredible journey. There has been massive growth throughout the Filecoin ecosystem of developers and users, and new use cases for decentralized storage are attracting major attention and adoption. We're here to share what we've been working on and where we're headed next.

It’s hard to believe, but the Filecoin network has been in orbit for a year already, following the highly anticipated Filecoin Mainnet Liftoff on October 15th, 2020.

Recently, Filecoin storage providers surpassed 12 exbibytes (EiB) of global, decentralized storage capacity, equivalent to 190 Internet Archives, 45,000 Wikipedias, and 6,850,000 years worth of video calls!

Imagine a search engine for Web3—that's what KEN Labs is building, with an indexing layer for the Filecoin dataverse. The idea is to be able to search by content through a single control panel, which is also tightly integrated with the data storage and retrieval markets.

All the world's data will occupy 175 zettabytes (that's 175 trillion gigabytes) within four years. This massive growth is happening in parallel with an underlying current of decentralization across society and technology. Filecoin's cryptographic proofs currently use the Groth16 proving system, we are exploring new proof systems which would allow us to add new proof types without the need for a labor intensive trusted-setup as well as reduce the storage footprint of the proofs published by Filecoin storage providers.
